Sixth Form Dress Code
Sixth Form students are role models to the wider school and it is important that they set a good example in conduct and behaviour. We expect Sixth Formers to dress in a smart business-like manner following the guidelines below. The only exceptions to the Sixth Form Dress Code will be Mufti days (charity days) and Dress Down Fridays, which will occur on the first Friday of each month. These guidelines will be refined over time through open consultation with a panel of students to make sure that the spirit and detail involved is appropriate to them.
The objectives of the dress code are to:
● Ensure all members of the Sixth Form dress appropriately for an educational setting.
● Prepare students for employment through guidelines that are similar to those you find in many businesses.
● Provide the wider community with a positive image of Croxley Danes School and its Sixth Form.
● Enable students to take pride in their appearance and themselves.
● Enable individual expression through students’ own clothes within a dress code.
● Ensure equality within our community and keep the cost of school wear down as the variation in outfits is not excessive.
The 16-19 bursary fund will be available for enrolled students to apply for financial support including the purchase of clothes to meet the dress code.
All students:
● Smart jacket or blazer, worn at all times.
● Optional: jumper or cardigan, to be worn under jacket. Jumpers which will not fit under jackets are not permitted, as the jacket is worn at all times.
● Coat, removed indoors at all times.
● Smart shoes, bearing no resemblance to trainers, flip flops or Dr Martens boots.
● Lanyard to be worn at all times for identification.
Male specific:
● Smart business suit or,
● Tailored trousers to be worn with a smart jacket or blazer.

● For formal occasions, e.g. Celebration Evening or representing the school at a formal event, a tie should be worn.

During periods of excessively hot weather, alterations such as not requiring jackets may be announced bythe Sixth Form team. At all other times, jackets are to be worn or carried by students. From May half term until the end of the summer term, students will be permitted to wear a tucked-in polo shirt instead of a smart shirt. Jackets or blazers will be optional.
Dress Down Fridays
This is a Sixth Form privilege that rewards adherence to the dress code at all other times. Held on the first school Friday of each month from October, casual clothes can be worn, but clothing must still be suitable for an educational environment with the same permissions on hair and jewellery as above. For example, a student could wear a jumper, t-shirt, jeans and trainers, but not torn jeans or strappy tops or visible tattoos.
The success of Dress Down Fridays will be monitored and updated as appropriate. If a student misinterprets Dress Down Friday they will not be allowed to participate the following month. Public examinations always take place in smart dress code.
Sixth Form PE
Students will need a set of suitable games clothes - only those playing in a school team may be required to wear regulation kits. The PE faculty will explain the sports options and the required appropriate kit in advance.
Dress Code management
Students will be sent home to change if they do not conform to the Dress Code with parents contacted. In the event of any subsequent issues, the student will also be set a detention. It is beyond the scope of the policy to provide guidance on every eventuality. In the event of a query, the Sixth Form leadership team will make the final decision. If a student regularly fails to comply with these guidelines, they will be dealt with according to the whole school behaviour policy.
